TRẦN HẢI MINH

BIOGRAPHY
Trần Hải Minh was born in 1962 in Hanoi, Vietnam.
He is known as a pioneer in the Abstract Expressionism movement in Vietnam. Each new painting he creates is a “mood scene”- a type of landscape of the spirit- full of stirring and fluctuation, with a rare, powerful, fluid, and elusive brushstroke.
In 1987, Trần Hải Minh received a scholarship to study in Germany after completing his art studies in Hanoi, and serving two years in the military. He graduated from the Berlin Art Academy in 1993, but stayed in Germany until 1997 before returning to Saigon.
During his time in Germany, Tran Hai Minh had the opportunity to encounter well-known artists such as Joseph Beuys, Anselm Kiefer, Ernst Wilhelm Nay, Emil Schumacher, AR Penck, Sigmar Polke, Gunther Uecker, Fritz Schwegler, Marcel Duchamp, and Antoni Tapies. This experience allowed him to develop a more expansive view of artistic subjects and aesthetics, resulting in a unique creative state for himself.
