Title: A Celebration called Love
This collection was inspired by my grandparents’ long-lasting and beautiful marriage of over 60 years. This is a profound relationship of a lifetime and continues to be a powerful example for everyone, worthy of celebration and treasuring.
Two forms, Lean On, and Side By Side, are based on photographs of the devoted pair. The clay forms look ambiguous at first, but perfectly replicate my grandparents’ loving poses. The Heart of Gold completes the trio, and complements my ongoing Heart series. The compassion, kindness and generosity my grandparents demonstrated for each other and those they loved were absolute and everlasting.
In the context of love, gold represents purity, warmth, and preciousness, mirroring the depth and significance of emotional connections between individuals. This precious metal, valued for its rarity, durability, and long-lasting shine makes it a fitting symbol for the strength and resilience of a committed relationship.
To see a flower peeking out of these vases will portray the pure and beautiful beings that love is able to cultivate when shared and nurtured.
Artist Profile:
Ami (born.1991) lived in Australia for over 14 years, and received a Bachelor of Product Design. It was through her constant exploration in the Arts that she uncovered a profound connection with ceramics. Something about how she could directly manipulate the medium of clay with her bare hands gave her a sense of purpose and control. She attended all the classes that she could afford, obsessed with improving her skills.
When she finally returned home to Ho Chi Minh in 2021, Ami was ready to unleash her dreams. She was able to completely break down the fundamentals of clay and hone in on her personal style every single day. She is currently exploring contemporary and modern ceramics inspired by her natural surroundings.
Ami’s personal ceramics style revolves around her own free spirit. Her imagination runs most wild when she is daydreaming about how she can translate her personal loves, things she can see and touch, the people she connects with, and her driving emotion, into beautiful works of clay artistry.
